Kerguelen Plateau Symposium 2010

The 1st Kerguelen Plateau Symposium on Marine Ecosystems and Fisheries was held in 2010 at the Marine Station of the MNHN in Concarneau, France.

The objectives of the symposium were to determine the status of scientific knowledge on the Kerguelen Plateau and to discuss future science programs in support of ecosystem-based fisheries management and conservation in the region.

The meeting brought together French and Australian researchers, fishery professionals, environmental and resource managers, policy officials, administrators, students and the public, all of which contributed and further developed the collaborative relationship that continues to this day. The proceedings that followed provided the first general overview of the science and history of the region.

The three-day symposium was divided into five main sections concerned with the marine environment of the Kerguelen Plateau. Presentations focused on the history of marine research and exploitation, marine geomorphology and oceanography, marine biodiversity, marine ecosystem: food webs, fish and top predators, and fisheries and conservation.

The proceedings of the KPS2010 can be found on the website of the Société Française d'Ichtyologie - Cybium.
